Question Is an '89 EFI 318 still an LA engine?

The '89 FI 318 is still the LA block and heads, isn't it? As I recall the change to the magnum engines didn't happen until '92, right?

I'm thinking about putting a 4 Bbl carb on an '89 FI motor. so far I've got info that says I will need:

Carb and manifold, fuel pump, and distributer. to make the swap. Is that it? It sounds too simple.

Thanks for the help.

It was 92 that they made the conversion to the current day "Magnum" for the 318/360.

I would bet that you would need the Mopar "electronic ignition conversion kit" IE: distributer, orange box, and ballast resistor.

Sounds like your on the right track.

Yeah, the car is already a carb'd, and I have a complete ignition system from an '86 van that had a 2bbl 318 in it.

I looking to put a 625 cfm AFB with a manifold.

Would an '89 EFI engine have a roller cam?

Default It's an "LA" still

The fuel injected engines do not have a fuel pump eccentric on the front of the cam gear. You'll need to purchase a fuel pump eccentric from MoPar.
1 other thing. I don't know about the timing cover. See, Magnum engines, not having a fuel pump eccentric or need for a mech. pump, have a thinner timing cover. Could this be the same for thet engine?
It very well may have the roller cam. Not rock soild on this.

you could still use and electric pump as long as it doesn't put out over 7 psi of fuel pressure, if for some wierd reason you can't easily put on a mechanical fuel pump.

If I am not mistaken 88-89 had roller cams. Your list sounds correct to me. i know on my truck it still has the spot for the feul pump to mount right on the timing chain cover and mine had the eccentric on it even though it is FI with the pump in the tank. I don't know why they did this but it makes it easier for me to switch to carb if I ever wanted to.
