Default fuel pressure

What should the fuel pressure gauge be reading in a 340? Mines at 3.5 psi.....Ive gone into the archives and found this to be very low compared to 383s and 440s.

7.5 is street strip, race type carb pressures.
If your having a fuel delivery problem, pumps are under $50.

Carter or Holly? Carters like 5.5 max, Hollys can take about 7.
3.5 is kinda low. May want to take your Carter or other round type apart and make sure the check valves are all the way seated (they are pressed and staked) if it is a stocker, get a good new one.

Its a Carter AFB CS.....I have a psi dial located just below the fuel filter so i'll turn it up and see what happens...Its set at 4.5 now so if I turn it up to 5.5 and nothing happens Ill change the filter first.....then check out the carb if nothing changes, thanks guys!

pishta nailed it on pressures. My Carter runs fine with 6psi. The fuel pump I have is a carter. It delivers 5.5-6 psi out of the box.
