I think I have seen one of the weights you are talking about?
I don't know what it is for, maybe to dampen vibrations? |

I found one of these off of a 74 Dart 904?? I took it of when I put it in my 69 Valiant ( with the same moter and rear end the 904 came with) and had no problems. What it is for, I dont know.

The chunk of iron is a damper weight designed to dampen resonant frequencies that occur in some drivetrain combinations.
It was first used on the '72 Imperial and later on various others. |

These weights started appearing on brand X cars around the same time.
I've only ever seen them on "luxury" cars. Imperials/c-body(as mentioned by John) and lincolns, crown vic's ect. Just thought I'd throw that in. |

Dead Wieght
Ok I here what is being said, Now I should have added this earlier, The date and numbers on the trans have it being a 69 heavy duty .. I don't know if this helps?? Did they all have a provission for the mounting of this wieght?( A drilled and tapped pair of holes)? If this helps it also has a hole in the bell that I was told is to time the motor when this trans is mounted in a Van.(You know with the dog house off). Maybe this trans started life out in a motor home?? Would that make a difference??
I think from the info so far I will leave it off.. Maybe it will gain me a tenth?? Thanks~Ray |

After 30+ years it's not uncommon to find Torqueflights with a jumble of different year parts, they might have been overhauled 2-3 times or more and parts swapped around.
A trans case with a hole in the top of the bellhousing is definitely from a van or motorhome. The timing marks on the front of the motor are hard to see on these vehicles so the marks were placed on the converter and the hole is used to observe the timing marks. Not all tailhousings have the boss drilled and tapped. |

I was hoping that it was made of gold, And that maybe my passion would have finally paid me back for some of the blood, sweat, tears, and of course green that my love and loyalty has costed. I will have to be happy with the joy of the cruise, and the looks of disgust that I rieceve from the tree huggers, when I pull along side of them in there electric Honda.. Thanks for your help.. If I knew how to end this I would.. Ray
