Help 400 truck big block?

i have a 71 chrysler 300 with what i beleive to be a truck 400. i looked at the stamping on the id plate and it says 6 for 1976 and either a T or and I i can't make it out right. what would be the difference between truck engines and passenger car engines? i also plan to change the rear end gears to 3.23 or 3.55 because the old 2.76's that were in it are pretty much useless in that heavy of a car. I don't know whether it would be useful and put in a dana power locker sure grip because with the wieght i have traction shouldn't be a problem?

Default 400

I don't know about numbers, but one way to tell truck engines is that they usually have rotators on the exhaust valves

A 1976 model year 400 would be stamped 6T400. The T does not stand for truck, it is the initial of the engine plant.

Light truck engines are identical to passenger car engines. The HD truck engines had different water pumps for better cooling as well as other changes. I don't think there was a HD version of the 400 but maybe there was. The HD truck engine was usually a 413.

The main differance between the 2 is the oil pan and pickup tube.
If it is a truck engine the pan and tube has already been changed,if it`s in the car.
I would imadgine the cam profile would differ from that of a car engine.
However as you pointed out this is a very heavy car.
There for that profile may be to your advantage.
Also a lot of those cars and the imperial`s came equiped with the sure grip rear.
Unfortunetly they came with the 276`s or the 294 ratio`s.

Some 400 truck engines had forged cranks, as late as '76. These were found mostly in standard shift trucks and cars.
If there is an E behind the displacement on the number pad (example 6T400E) is is a cast crank motor.
