magnum engines oil thru push rods and have no provisions to oil rockershafts.Makes a noisy engine.Mopar sent a reman 360 once ,and put pre mag heads on mag engine,was a mess.

madmax2;
LA heads will fit a Magnum block but you will have to get the oil to the heads and rockers. Drill a hole in the block where the oil would normaly come out of for oiling up through the head. Go as far as you need to and not a .0000001 more. You need to get to the galley below. I'm not sure about swapping in an old cam into a new Manum engine. I don't think so. But, your allready set up for a roller. What's broke on it. All you need is a cam amd a set of lifters to replace the broken ones? |

is a magnum with 800 km (500 miles), in the first trip the camshaft loosen from the timing gear and moved longitudinally braking the all lifters, melling the lobes and twist some valves.
I like buy it and fix with more cheap possible. I have a Edelbrock heads with Crane roller rockers in a 318.... and I would like swap in the magnum; it's advisable this?. For drill the oil hole can use the head gasket as reference? |

WOW! You have waited to long. I forgot about this thread and didn't know you replied.
I'm not sure the head gasket will provided. It should, but I don't know which one is it just sitting here. (Damn, where have I read this before.) I'll have to look around my papers to see where I have read this before. Quote:
Only you need to want to do this. For some people, it's easy, others my think different. |

Thanks Rumblefish360,
I have this idea for a long time and I remembered it when read a post in the forum about 360 Magnums.. summarizing: I must drill block so that the oil raises the heads and fill the rockers shaft and only use rollers cams. Ok? With the LA heads I can use all LA intakes in the market too !!! |

OK, here goes. You can use LA heads on a Magnum block but you MUST drill from the deck to the #4 cam journal on the right (passenger) bank and to the #2 cam journal on the left (drivers) bank. You can use either LA or Magnum roller lifters but you need the LA pushrods. Get a head gasket for the location of the oiling hole at the deck, and use a long .230 drill bit. This really should be done at a machine shop as it needs to be located nearly perfectly.

Use the cam of your coice and measure pushrod length. MoPar sells the correct pushrod length for this conversion. Like skankweirdall said, have a shop do this unless your extremly qualified. |

Yes, but you are not going to drill to the lifter galley, you must drill to the cam journal. You will be able to use either the roller or flat tappet cams in either hydraulic or solid with NON Magnum pushrods. If you are using a large solid roller though you'll need to block the oil to the lifter galley. |

Also remember that magnums use a 1.6 rocker ratio vs 1.5 for LA engine. So if you use a cam designed for a magnum you will be losing some valve lift.
