I've seen the "Magnum" badge on several different types of engines: 3.5L V6, 3.9L V6, 5.2L V8, 8.0L V10. But what does magnum mean on an engine. Is it a certain design team? Does it have to do with specific engine specs or is it just used to sound important? If any one knows please tell me. Thank you.

The magnum designation is a left over from the 60's performance big blocks the 440 and 383s(I think) HP motors were called magnum motors. Now a days I think it was placed on all the motors when they had there last major motor revision. Its no big deal... basically a sticker..

On V-8s It just designates new as opposed to old. There are some minor but important differences between old (LA) smallblocks and new "MAGNUM" smallblocks, almost all of the differences are in the heads and oiling of the valvetrain. Basically you have two engines that seem the same on paper but don't interchange completely in real life. So, yep Maxwedge, you is right for the most part.
