Anyone do this brake conversion?
Convert from man, 4 wheel drums to power 4 wheel drums. I bought a Master Power kit and it has never worked. I have bled the system 5 times adjusted the supplied linkage, adjusted the brakes, and still the pedel does not come up as far as it did. What's up?

I converted a 66 charger from manual drum to power drum. I had a problem where one of the links, was too short. It made the pedal about an inch lower than it was prior to the parts change.
I had to cut it it two, and lengthen it. Without seeing the car, I couldn't possibly tell you which link and by how much. I do remember it was a link that had bolt pivot holes in it, and was only about 2 inches long to begin with. I remember that I undid one end of it and held the pedal where I wanted it, to approximate the length difference. It was about a half an inch too short(longer on the pedal because of the length of it) I also remember getting a pro to weld it, since brake stuff is pretty important. Perhaps your problem is something similar. |

There is an adjustable rod for this, as well. No welding required. Just adjust the rod until the proper pedal height is achieved and then tighten down the lock nut.

if it is a brake pushrod problem, manciniracing.com sells the adjustable one, pretty cheap if I remember correctly

Problem is that this was supposed to be a "PRE Engineered" unit so it was to have no adjustment.I called Master Power and the guy on the phone who id's himself as the owner said to now remove the bushings from between the booster and the bracket. The rod that connects between the back of the booster and the pedal is the longest they make yet the pedal sits 2" from the floor and the pedal is 2" from the brake light switch. I realize that a manual pedal sits higher than a power pedal but this is not even close!
Its in an E-Body by the way. [IMG][/IMG] |
