Default Headers or cutout pipes 383 engine

Can anyone tell me how the following compares for torque & hp.

Iam thinking of installing exhaust outlets with caps in the dual exhaust pipes 2 ft behind tailpipe to exhaust manifold joint.
Caps would only be removed when at the track.

How will this compare to using headers?

Will there be enough back pressure using stock 906 heads and exhaust manifold?

Thanks!

Unhappy

headers= H.P. gains = more speed

cut-outs= Lot's of noise

Just my 2 cents

There is power to be had with the header extentions. about 18 inch pipes added onto the collector flanges on the end of headers. Thats were i would have the place to uncap them. I thought about doing that long time ago myself. My Challenger will have 3 inch T/A exhaust style exiting before the tires. I dont think it sould be worth uncapping them at the track.......we will see.

Headers good
cut-outs, un-nessecary
a well thought out exhaust system can be as good as running open headers.
I used to run open headers at the track, just because it was the thing to do, but for entertainment one weekend I left the exhaust bolted up well what do ya know- more torque-better times, and comfortable noise level. Have run 2 1/2 duals with flowmasters on everything since, thinking of trying out an H or X pipe too.

i have dumps on my pipes about a foot past the headers on my duster. they give me about a tenth of a second better time in an eighth mile. tried it both ways, for sure at least a tenth in my application ( 340, 727, 8 3/4 sure grip w/ 3.91). just my $0.02.
