Please correct me if I'm posting to the wrong board. My FWD 90 Sundace A/C Clutch won't engage when I push the a/c button in the dash. When I disconnect it, and jumper it to the battery, I hear the clutch click, and when the car's running, the a/c actually sort of works (it's low on charge, too). Any hints on troubleshooting this?

Yeah, up by the expansion valve (rectangular metal block on the firewall, two AC hoses go to it) you'll find an electrical switch. This switch is a low pressure cutoff switch. You say your low on charge so odds are your system is doing what it is supposed to do. Get a shop to recharge your system and it shoudl work properly again. Running it bypassed will burn out the compressor eventually as the Freon also carries the oil that lubes the compressor.

I think steve was going to tell you with the engine running put a jumper across the low pressure cut-out switch connector terminals.
If the compressor engages now, your low on charge or possible have expansion valve that is stuck closed(replaced lots in 98-90 P bodies) ------------------ 70 challenger r/t conv, 72 383 swinger, 90 5th Ave, 98 V-10 Q/C SWB 4x4 |
