Over porting an intake bowl
I think I just made a boat anchor. Is there any way to fix a intake bowl when you grind into the water jacket?
Please no it went through before it was to the point of the other bowls ports. |

Is it aluminum or iron?
How large an area did you get to thin? Is there a hole & if so how big? If repairable will depend on these questions. I will check back after you answer. |

It can be welded
I have done the same thing when I was"fresh"
If it's on the intake and not to big it can be welded but if it is on the exhaust it's harder, to much temperature fluktuation (or how you spell it). It's a lot less hazle if it is aluminum heads. Just my experience Good luck |

Dont toss it yet! Call Jegs or Summit Racing and ask for a A&B epoxy made by Moroso. Been about 5 years the last time I bought some but man thats good stuff. It will repair that head and is tuff as steel. I used it on some aluminum heads that someone went to deep with. That stuff wont burn or pull out for years. If ever i remeber it was $30 or so.

They are 452 iron heads, hole is about wide as a kitchen match and about 3/8 long. It came through even though the other ports are as deep.
I can get to the under side of the bowl via the freeze plug. Still have not figured out how to post a picture. |

Damn!, That sucks Dude. I would try that epoxy that 6packin was talking about, or JB weld. Either that or get another 452, they are plentiful.
Hey, look at the bright side, even though it's got a hole in it, it's still better than a stock chevy head!:chainsaw: |

The head is very repairable. I dont think you want to go thru all the trouble again if your head is almost complete. Welding the head will be ok since it is so small, but I have used this epoxy on just about everything from aluminum to cast iron. It will fix your head & since you can reach the backside, then you can clean the excess out of the water jacket.
Here is there websight. I dont know of were you can obtain in your area, but these Guy's will tell you. It is worth it's weight in gold. This stuff can be used to level out runners without the trouble of coming loose. http://www.highsidechem.com/redepxy.html wish you the best of luck. |

If you can get to the back-side, you're in good shape. Easy, and reliable fix. Get some "A B" expoxy.(Iget mine from CV products),
Through the hole on the back side, you' need to clean, as well as possible. Leave the tough texture, though. Rough up the area, around the spot, in the bowl The last prep thing, is, take paint thinner, and clean both sides. Give it 20 minutes to evaporate. Follow the directions with the AB. Also, have a cup of water close by. With damp fingers,(not dripping, just enough, to keep the expoxy from sticking to your fingers)) push the AB through, from the bowl side, and spread, it, as it comes through, the back side. I've never had a problem, if I could get to both sides. After you get enough for a good footprint, on each side, don't try to shape it. Wipe any residue from any other spots. Come back the next day, and grind into shape. |
