Can any one help me out? the car shorts out the tach on occasions and then the engine runs terrible - lack of power- then suddently the car the next day starts and runs fine with tach working fine. anyone who has experienced this please advise. the car is a carburated 2.2liter non turbo. it has a million news parts incl the head and cam and i dont want to part with it due to this thanks

Are you saying the car quits when driving, just like you shut the key-off?
It then re-starts right away or the next day?

If they answer is yes to these questions I would suggest trying a new distributor pick-up.

Sounds like the same problem I had with my 87 Charger. It was the wires coming from the hall effect pickup. They rubbed themslves bare against the distributer and were shorting out the ignition.

where is the hall effect pick up. the car doesnt quit it just runs weak all of a sudden. You have to floor it to get to 50 mph. is the hall effect inside the distibutor? thanks
