VernMotor
The 400 came in 1972 modells but the casting was made in 71.
My engine is from june 1971 with forged axle but what I have read there where only steel axles in early manual trans engines. I have talked to the "president" of the Charger register and we have tried to figure out my charger, it's made between the 71 and 72 year modells and migth have been a preproduktion or dealer car to show of the 72 year modell, I don't know. Take care. |

I have owed this motor for a lot of year maybe 15 ? I realy did not know it was a odd ball deal till about 5 years ago..I seen something in Hot rod or some mopar book somewhere..
they talk about it.. I took this motor out of the car myself. but you never know how it got in there.. looked like it had been in there all its life. they did stuff like that back then. |

Strange things
Yes they must have made some strange things then.
I had a 1974 Road Runner GTX according to the fendertag and Galen, it had a 440 with forged crank and sixpack rods, and low compression smog pistons and 902 heads. It hade never been apart until I took it apart. They must have had a large stock with all different kinds of parts they just tossed in a motor at the assembley plant. |
