Shorty headers
Ok, I'm running a very mild 318 9.2comp with the base level MP cam.
I'm currently only using the std. manifolds (log type) but have been told not to bother with "shorty" headers as they will not show any improvement. Just leak and pop gaskets. Has anyone had any experience with Shorty's.? Why shorty's, well it's along story but lets say my car is right hand steer and they're alot cheaper than long tube headers for my car. Please don't let that prevent you from giving me your experiences and opinions!! |

According to the tests I have seen, the shortys are worth over the manifolds, basically they flow better. But they are not as good as good equal length tube tuned headers. Still a benefit over the manifolds. I have not had a lot of problems with header gaskets once you check the flanges are straight and the bolts tight. You must retighten them after installation after a while and then later occasionally.

No, I have never run "shorties", but I have seen the results of a couple of dynotests in the same engine using manifolds, shorties and long tube headers and based my reply on those. Long tubers is all I have used.
