A small runner intake like the SP2P with a small carb should cause no undesired problems. If an automatic transmission is used, the kickdown linkage may need to be modified.

sp2p is too small anf wont run past 4000 rpm. Use the stock cast thermoquad intake or the Wieand action plus 180 degree dual plane and a 800 cfm thermoquad that was stock on mid 70's and up.
It will give you plenty of low end and great mid range where you need it most. Some 2 bbl brackets that bolts to the intake and mounts the throttle cable will not work on a 4 bbl intake due to hieght of the intake runners. They are still available from the dealer if you cant find a factory set up in the junk yard.
Make sure you get the kick down linkage hooked up and adjusted right. If you dont the trans will not shift at the right speeds and could burn it up since it regulates fluid pressure.

I also don't care much for the Edelbrock SP2P intake, but it makes good low end torque on my RamCharger (it came with the truck.)
The Edelbrock Performer or Weiand action plus are good for a new manifold.
For used intakes, the old cast iron 360 intake works good, but is heavy and on early engines I block off the EGR ports inside the manifold and block off the EGR pad too. You need an adaptor to run a square bore carb like a Holley or Edelbrock (AFB) so I wouldn't spend more than $20 on one of these intakes.
The old street single planes like the Holley "Street" Dominator and the Edelbrock "Street Master 318" also work good and can sometimes be bought at the swap meet for around $50.
A 600 cfm carb is all you will need.

Changing to the Holley or Carter/Edelbrock AFB 4-bbl will allow you to tune the air/fuel mixture for your engine.

To really get the most benifet from the new induction, you should already have a dual exhaust system, at least 2.25" pipe, and small tube headers will help even more.

Exclamation

The Edelbrock Performer dual plane intake has the smaller 318 style ports; with any 4 bbl intake, you will also need a small block four barrel (accelerator cable/kickdown)bracket , DAVID.
