Dayam I'm ambivelent, heck I'm just cheap!!
Here goes, I am scrapping the 400 and getting a 440 block and building from scratch. If I buy a motor, most parts will need replacing and/or expensive headwork anyways. Whether it's overbored, or not. I have friends in the auto industryry who can help me with parts for cheap.
BLOCK- found several, have it sonic tested, maybe bored, put some Huhges or Keith Black pistons and rods at 10:1. New or used crank, this will be done and balanced by the pros.
HEADS: Found some from Aerohead: 452 cast, with 2.14x 1.81 .509 lift springs, seals, locks and retainers, bronze valve guides and diamond honed. Not sure if they are bowl ported or not. Throw in a .509/292 cam.
E-brock single plane intake
Holley 750 dual feed.
Hopefully this will get me my 400-500 hp and look pretty cool too.

Except for the 452 heads it sounds like my GTX motor I have a cast crank so I stay under 6000, I have a pretty mellow Mopar performance cam 280/.474 grind ,750 holley-it wants more fuel. An Edelbrock Performer,2.14/1.81's ported to the Mopar perf. templates. The recommended valve springs, titanium retainers,TRW 9.5 to 1 forged pistons,B&M flex plate and an tci 1000 rpm over stock converter. It revs quicker than some hot small blocks I know ,traction is a foriegn word. there is no replacement for displacement.I'm hoping to upgrade to roller rockers this winter to get a better handle on valve lash. Good Luck

Question

Bilz,
Sounds like an awesome car. How much power are you running and was it an expensive motor to build??

you can reuse your rods if they are ok, and you can reuse your crank if you have a forged one. your motor probably has 906 or 452 or 915 heads on it already. you can get them ported and polished and get your valves backcut. keep in mind that your engine had about 375hp from the factory, so you won't need alot

Also keep in mind, that the 375 horses were gross horsepower, and advertised ones. They are not comaprable with the horsepower ratings in use today. I think the real power of a stock 440 magnum is around 250-300 horsepower.
