Default New Member and Question

Hi Frends, is my first post.
I have a Dart Sport GT 74, 318 cid, 340 Cam, 904 Trans, TQ Carburator, Headers, 7 1/4 rear end 3.23.
Now I making some mods: Relocate de Leafs inside, made more whell weel spacing and put rool bar.....then I will paint and put a fresh 360.
Let me aks you a question:
I' have a Ld4B Edelbrock Intake, I think the R.P.M range of this intake is from Idle to 5.500.
If I install a 2" Carb separator, Can I get 6.500??

Thanks...José Romero.

:shock: Welllll....

First of all, Welcome! 2nd, there is a possibility that a 2" spacer and your TQ won't even allow the hood to shut! 3rd, there is a lot more info we need before a GOOD answer can be given- what valvetrain are you running (roller rockers or stock, etc.), what are your intentions? What do you expect as far as durability, driveability, etc.? Help us help you... 440cj

That intake will make more power for sure. Its the best factory/replacment intake out there. But its not being reproduced so hang on to it...I dont think the carb spacer will help.. maybe on a single plane intake like a M1 or torker II. The 340 cam will start falling of above 5000 rpm's depending on the valve spring condition maybe before. After more powerful cam and valve spring replacement. The heads will be a limiting factor above 5500 rpm's or so. Thing is with a good cam, intake, carborator they will be useless for more air/fuel flow if your heads are a bottle neck (restriction). They have way small valves, Good for low end torque but poor for top end power..

So in short NO the spacer WILL NOT HELP.

GTMaracucho;

440cj is right. You must be a little more clear on your thoughts and intentions.
Ask a simple question, get a simple answer. Ask an unclear question, get wrong answers.

My answer to you;

I can understand where your coming from. When you add a spacer to an intake, more often than not, it will add a few RPM's to it's ablitiy. The intake you have has a rating to about 5000 or 5500 rpm. To get the intake to perform to 6500 RPM's would take alot of work with no promise's of getting there.
For the price of the machine work needed to get the LD4B to possibly perform until 6500 RPM, you would be better off purchasing a Weind Stealth or Better yet a Edelbrock RPM intake manifold. Both intakes are fantastic for a hot street engine.
A spacer is good for 200 - 400 RPM's at best.
Most Hyd. cams only perform until 6000 RPM's anyway unless the cam is a radical unit.
I wish to point out that if you indeed have a 7 1/4 rear, it is a (VERY) weak link. A 8 1/4 should be used at a min. with an 8 3/4 being favored. A 9 1/4 rear from a truck is good to use as well.
All of course, depending on whats available.

OH, and by the way, Bienvenido a mi casa MoParchat.

Sorry, but yesterday I can't stay on the Forum.

I'm Planning built my 360 with 292 Comp Cam Kit, Milled and ported heads, Cero Deck Height, Flat Piston, and maybe 273 rocket arm, 1 5/8" headers and TQ Carburator.
And respect the rear end I'found a 8 3/4" rear end, 3.91 and sure grip with BF Godrich 28 x 10.5 Drag Radial.
The problem I think is the Intake that I have (Ld4B).

What do you Think ????

2 things need to be addressed in my book.

1). The rockers from a 273 are a interferance fit. You screw them down until the touch the pushrod.
Comp has adjustable rockers for the small block. There abit expensive @ about $300, but it will fit better.
This company can modify your 273 rockers.

I would change over.

2). The intake will hold the engine back in terms of RPM. I would switch to a Edelbrock RPM or Weiand Stealth for the dual plane selection or a single plane intake like MoPars M-1 single plane, a Holley strip Dominator or and Edelbrock Victor intake.
My choice would be an Edelbrock RPM.
Your spreadbore T-Q will not fit. I was told that a Weiand Stealth can be modified to accept the T-Q.
The MoPar M-1 and Holley Strip Dominator can take on the T-Q's huge secondarys right out of the box. No problem. Just a bolt on with these intakes. The Victor is a squarebore carb intake. (Not for T-Q's.
IMO, the single plane intakes are to much for a 3.91 gear and a 28 inch tire.
