Default 2003 Roush Mustang

I just saw a Car and Driver Television show that featured the '03 Roush......13.9 in the quarter.......I thought I saw somewhere that the '02 was tested in the mid 12s. Did I misread the '03 stats or is this a $40,000 boat anchor?

For 40K I can get my Duster in the 8's, I'd get my buddy to build me one of his 613ci MOPAR's thats been dyno'ed @ 950hp/1050 torque (one of these is running on the street where I live), and still have a LOT of spare money to build another car.

Which version of the Roush were they testing? A 13.9 ΒΌ-mile time just sounds like the Roush-sans-blower version. The Roush kit comes in 3 stages. Stages I & II are simply glorified & overpriced GT's. Stage III is the blown version & at has a few of it's own variations like a base Stage III, a premium version, a rally version & the 360R. Roush claims low-mid 12's out of the 360R & the other Stage III's are probably somewhere in that ballpark too

Yeah $40,000 can build a faster car, but heres the monkey that nobody has mentioned...
Ma Mopar doesnt even put her money on the table unless you count the trucks, and how many of those can break into the 13 out of the box, name for me just one current offereing from mopar thats a RWD passenger car type with a V8, and I really dont want to hear about the srt-10 it may look nice, but still no backseat for my kid and dog ...what about a viper you may say....realisticly I can afford the offerings from ford-mustang and cobra, or even a Z-28 or SS and maybe stretching it -a roush mistake, they all come with warranties (not that I like strangers molesting my ride)....
but nobody from chrysler is tempting me to buy anything off the showroom floor that strikes fear into the hearts of pedestrians...
hmmm that almost sounded like a rant, but unless dodge starts putting up theyre going to have to shut up

Yeah, it's a neon and front wheel drive/4 door but for 20K:

Performance
Acceleration
0-30 mph : 2.5 sec.
0-60 mph : 5.8 sec.
30-50 mph : 2.0 sec.
50-70 mph : 3.0 sec.
Quarter Mile : 14.2 sec. @ 99.5 mph
Handling
Lateral grip (200ft skidpad) : .85 g
Slalom (700 ft. six cone) : 69.0 mph
Braking
60-0 stopping distance :119 ft.

Take out the rear seat, and add slicks, there ya go. 13's for 20K.
7/70

Yeah, I wouldn't give up my Coronet for one, but for a daily driver that'll scare the shit outta all GT's in stock form, and with a little more spook some older Cobra's, I won't complain.

What is a worse feeling, being beat by a Cobra, or a Neon?

aww come on coronet you know theres a big difference between a FWD 4 banger and a RWD v8 car... maybe you can argue the numbers all day, but neons still not intimidating street figure(sorry neon owners-no offense)
I looked at neons 300s and stratuses FIRST, but out of lack of RWD I was forced to the chebbie, poontiac and ford dealerships before finally settling on a mustang-
like i said before-no options...

Cool Maybe not intimidating but.....

If nothing else it would look just like any old rice-mobile neon. Hmmm sounds like sleeper material to me. Also after the last couple of snow storms i am glad my daily driver is front wheel drive. Just wish it were a mopar.

Default sniff.

Yeah kudah, there is nothing like doing a 180 in an empty parking lot.

I love RWD, thats why I didn't get the Neon, I'm holding out for the New HEMI Ram.

Or at least a new rwd V8, I'm gonna try to stay with Ma Mopar. But those new Cobra's (If I had money) look real good!

I'll take the V8 car over the 4-banger everytime. If for no other reason than the "work" the V8 can do.
You can drive the V8 around all day long and never tax the engine, and still have fun with it.

My son drives a Saturn that has been worked, and is pumping out about 305 hp. Yes, I said 305 hp from a 1.9L 4 cylinder that has been worked over. My '72 318 (it also has a relatively mild build to it) Dart is putting out about the same power as his 4 banger (for less than half the aftermarket cost), and my big old heavy Dart will stomp his plastic light wieght 4 banger everytime.

My sons Saturn is very fast, but my Dart is QUICKER. Plus, I can drive it around all day long at UNDER 2000 RPM's. My 318 puts out a bunch of torque in the low end, and that's what you need to get the wheels turning from a standing start. The overworked 4 cylinder cars just can't produce that big punch without producing a B I G H O L E in your wallet.

My Dart represents less than an $8000.00 investment. It's not the fastest or quickest car around, but it's the best bang for the buck that I have seen in years!

I have absolutely nothing against 4 cylinder FWD cars, and I have been known to defend them against short sighted people, but I'll take mine with a V8, thankyou.

BTW, For 20 grand I can build 2 Darts like mine, and have enough change left over to start on, and nearly complete a third!!
