cry2 Help-need crate motor info.

Well, its either Ray Barton Krate or Mopar Crate! Decisions, Decisions! What I would like to know about the 402c.i. Mopar motor is:
1) weight of motor as sold
2) type of pistons (forged or cast)
3) type of rods (forged or cast)
4) type of crank (forged or cast)
5) flywheel included or not?
6) R/T heads- swirl port or not?)

yeah, you're right, i'm thinking about doing the MPI thing with this motor, a-la the Green Brick. Since the car (1965 Dart) is primarily a streeter, I might be able to get away with Mopar Crate. What are your thoughts?

As you are a first timer, do a search on crate. You will find that a MOPAR crate is crap. A Ray Barton crate is probably a good quality setup.

IMHO build an existing block to the specs that you want. It will cost about the same and you will have exactly what you want.

Godamighty! This is some website. Thanks for the feedback. I may have my faults, but ingratitude is not one of them.

Its already been said about the crate motors and I agree especially if compared to the crappy short block program.

wOW, EVERYBODY HATES A LEMON..

I had one, but MP swapped it for a real smooth motor.

Seriously, The first one (360/380) they sent me ruined the rings when first fired. It took two weeks of phone calls to convince MP to exchange it. Maybe I should have allowed what they offered, which was a local rebuild, but I was upset.

Anyway, they DID replace it, and it's been running strong after 10,000 miles and three years of street duty.
As a matter of fact, I just started it up for the first time in 3 weeks because of the cold here in NY, and WHAM! turned the key and she lit!

Here's the hard part: The MP crate will cost you about $2000 less than a Barton job, but you will probably be happier with Ray's stuff. He can build what you want, not the 4 flavor selection that MP has.

The MP is drillable for MPI right on the supplied manifold, though, if that's how you want to go. I've been real happy with carbs, though, and don't think that MPI will be less work to tune tune.
