360 in a 77 cordoba
A friend of mine has a 77 Cordoba. He says it's got a 360 but I seem to remember a while back (before it got derbied)when he said it had a 318. Did the 77 Cordobas have a 360 option? I told him to get me the casting numbers but would like a little more info on this subject. Thanks for any info.

I don't know if it was an option, but I'd be surprised if it wasn't.
A quick check would be a look at the dampener/balancer. If it is smooth around the front face(where the pulley bolts on), it's a 318. If it's got a big lump over about 1/3 of the face, it's a 360. Cordoba's were high line cars, and even big blocks were available, so a 360 would not be unheard of at all. |

Thanks. I skimed through my Mopar parts catalog and chilton manual to try and find a picture of the 360 dampener To get a better idea of what your talking about but came up short. It shouldn't be to hard to find a 360 I could look at around here. Just wanted to know for sure before before I drove 2 hours to get the engine. Believe me at 8 mpg (if i'm lucky) it can be a big deal for me.

If there's one thing I understand it's poor gas mileage.
My Van will burn up $27 canadian in premium gas, in one trip to work and back. (135km/85 miles) The good news is, my turbo lebaron, get's it down to about $9. |

Holy crap man!!! I have never lived more than 10 miles from a job. Which translates to about 3 bucks USD to and from work. You have my sympathy.

Yes, the Cordoba was offered with a 360 and it should not be any problem seeing that huge lump on a 360 vibration dampner. If it's out of the car just look on the left side of the engine where the starter should be and the last of the numbers would be either 318- one more number or 360- one more number. The last number tells how good the casting of that block is. Lower number better block. Hope that helps.

Yes, the 77 Cordoba came with 360's and 400's too.
I had a '77 Cordoba with the 360-4bbl, power everything and even moon roof, and I got it for $100 from a guy who was going to crush it. I drove it for two years and sold it. |

hey dwc, is a "3" block good? what makes the lower numbers better than the higher ones? Better nickel content maybe. Thanks.
