Default raising rear

I want to raise my rear "1-"2. Instead of re-arching my springs couldnt I go to a larger diameter tire? I currently have 295/50/15s which are 26.61". If I went to a 295/60/15 which are 28.93" will this raise it a little over an inch? Wells are tubbed so the room is there and will be going to 3.91s which should be more friendly with larger diameter skins. Thanks

that is the easiest way to do it! Speedo gears are calibrated to a standard tire size so the 39 tooth will get you close but its better to do the math and get the correct one. With tubs you could get 70's under ther no problem, eh?

Thanks Pishta...I'm not really concerned about speedo gearing as I never speed anyway Just as long as its in the ballpark. The 70s (31.25") would fit but that would give me 4.64" over the 50s(26.61"). So when figuring how much the 70s would raise the rear over the 50s wouldnt you divide 4.64 by 2 and that would give me a raise of 2.32"s? Hope this makes sense....EH..

SS Springs will raise the rear anywhere from 1.5" to 2.5" depending on which hole you use for the spring eye.

Got an extra inch and a half from using coil over springs from a '72 Ranchero GT. Expensive now, but not then. I wouldn't recommend them for strip use, but great for stiff ride on the street...

i got a 1/2" plate of iron, drilled some holes, and remounted my airshocks about 6" lower than stock (gave me MUCH more lift). now, i don't have to pump the air shocks up to 160psi to get the rear up to avoid tire+fender collision...

my $.02....cheap, simple....

Well there is no room for 60s or 70s, I only have an inch or so between tire and and front lip of the rear fenderwells. 15x10 centerlines...295s, lotsa room everywhere else. I can only go down I size with these wheels and that still wont give me enough to get a 60 series in there. So I checked the local Dodge dealer and according to his book they didnt make SS springs for A bodies only E and B. So my only option is to get my leafs re-arched. No airshocks or shackles on this puppy! I remember in 71 I had a 69 Firebird with shackles, they must have been 10 inches long , and a set of thrush outsiders to match the shackles....Those were the days

Hey littlecampbell, all the superstock springs are 20 inch front segments and will fit an A body without modification. Just pick the weight. If it ends up to high you can have them dearched or go the cheap route and use lowering blocks. If you use the blocks though buy a quality set of cast iron or the thick aluminum, not that cheap cast thin walled aluminum crap.

Thanks skankweirdall!...I noticed that the part numbers from left and right are different. Is there an extra leaf in the right one? Right now i've got 9 1/2"s from the front of the rear rockers so i'm kinda wondering what i'll get with the SSs? Probably alot more. Getting leafs re-arched and taking out a leaf and putting anew one is the same price as SSs. Course it would be more having to de-arch but I would have the best then!

The right and left springs are different. They may have more leaves, may not. They have different rates and leaf sections and are clamped differently too. All depends on the springs intended application.

If you really want to get a bigger tire in there though you'll need to stretch the wheel well opening. That's the best way.

Why do you want to raise it? Most want to raise it for tire clearance. The SS springs would help all around, especially traction issues......
002 and 003 will be the best for all around A bodies....

Please dont put air shocks on it!!!!

Sounds good. I'll check them out tommorrow. Wheelwells have been mini tubbed to get 295s in there. Not interested in doing any hammering. If I want a taller tire in there I'll have to go to a not as wide(10") rim. Thanks!

Here is a link to a pic of my Duster. It's been mini tubbed and the wheel wells stretched. Those are M/T 10.5W/29.5's under there. The springs have also been moved into the frame rail. Sorry it's not a great pic but I'm a little limited on that site as to how much space pic's can take up. You'll see no air shocks or shackles here.

Kevin....I adjusted my ride height almost back to stock so now the rear sits level with the front. When you look at it it looks like the front sits higher but it doesnt. I just want to raise it maybe an inch and a half. Will give me more clearance in the front for headers and am tired of the low rider look and crawling over the smallest speed bumps. Some of the bumps out there I would never get over! No air shocks anywhere near this dart

lc, nice looking Dart. One of my favorite body styles as well.

No I don't drive it on the street any more. To many idiots down here. It's still got all the street equipment except an exhaust system, so it wouldn't take much to put it back.

The car was plain white when I drove it on the street. Kind of a semi-sleeper.

Yep, that's really the Mrs. she's about 11 years younger than me. What she sees in me I'll never know.

Don't worry, your secret is safe with me.

Skankweirdall:

You really need to convince her to bust out the bikini and pose with that Bad Boy!!

I have a website called www.carsandgirls.com that is definately lacking in the Mopar department, and would love to post some pictures of her and your car. In fact, she doesn't have to even wear a bikini if she doesn't want to! We need some mroe Mopar content to push all the Chevelle's off the site!! Drag cars are even more of a bonus!!

I can even send my brother (the photographer) over to take some professional photos if your interested.

Dartman, I don't think she'd go for that. I'll see what I can do though.

You can get stock height and 1" & 2" over leaf springs from ESPO Springs. I think they go by Springs-n-Things also. I have their 1" over on my Duster and they may be able to give you even more arch if you like. Reasonably priced quality leaf springs.
