Default Charging question

Just a quick question about older charging systems..

There's 3 connections on the alternator, the main one to the battery, one field wire that goes to the voltage regulator, and another field wire. Where does this second one go? To the ignition module (or MSD box)?

The second field wire goes to a source of keyed 12 volts. This page shows the wiring for both the early and late charging systems:
