Default Air cleaner seal

Anyone know what the basic idea was for the aircleaner seal? I mean the filter element itself seals to the lid so whats the seal for in the lid and where can I get a new one?

Over twenty people and no one has had to do something with the dry crusty seal on their air cleaner lid?

I'm not following you. The air cleaner sits on the bottom part that sits over the carb. The lid pops on top. The only seal I know of is the round gasket that goes on the carb itself. After that, K&N sells a seal to help seal up any gaps created by warped lids and base's or damaged elements.
Can you be more specific? Got a pic?

Wait, is this a stock lid? It just hit me. Stock lid with the gasket that runs around the diameter ynderneath the lid as so to meet and seal the lid to the base.
Hows that. Try a dealer yet?

Ya, 33 people looking and 34 don't know. That should be a clue that your description could have been a bit vauge.

I just copied and pasted that and forgot the first half! See what happens when you dont pay attention? What I ment to say was the seal in the lid, the nice dry crusty thinh that seals the lid to the base. The Dodge dealer in town wont even look if its older then 1980. Just curious though it can't have any real sealing properties can it? Like I said above the element seals to the lid and base so whats the seal in the lip of the lid for?

LOL I do the same crap once in a while.

That seal around the lid is to seal the lid to the aircleaner base on factory aircleaners. As to keep the air coming into the aircleaner coming in only one way.

I have seen the gasket you are talking about in engine teardown gasket sets and also carb gasket sets from FelPro.
