Sounds good!
What year 440?
The people here including me thinks the old purple shaft cams are outdated. I switched to a new design will make substatial more power.

Tri Y's who is the manufactors of these?
What car is it going in?
Whats the rearend/gearing?

What car model/year?
Mostly whats you plans with the car?
Exhaust? Header dimensions?
Ignition system?
What did you have for breakfest?.........Just kiddin
The reason I ask is that cam selection means alot with things like gearing, weight of the car, stall converter rpm, intake, carb, exhaust and many others.

Honestly you can make at least 30 more horses with a diff cam and may not effect drivabilty any. (may even be better)

Well, it is a going into a 1968 Notchback barracuda, with a 8 3/4 rear end, with a sure grip 3.55. THis car will see street action, racing the rice burners. How hard would it be to pull the cam with the motor in the car? I just dropped it in last weekend, doesnt run yet. THe Tri Y headers, are MAde by Shumacher or somthin like that. THey are a solid header if you ask me

440Barracuda,

Don't pull your cam. The .474 Purple shaft is a great street piece. If you didn't do so already, degree it in at 4 degrees advance. The .474 is ground on a 110 degree centerline. So you should install it at 106 degrees. You will pick up lots of torque and move the peak torque numbers into a 750-1000 RPM lower range, which is what you need on the street, with the gears you are running. It'll take another couple hours of your time, not a couple hundred more $.

Your combination sounds pretty good.
If quality of machine work and assembly is good, you should have
a fine-running street engine.

Give your cam a try: I'm running the same one in a similarly-equipped
engine, and it's been an excellent overall street cam (especially
considering it was likely designed with a slide rule instead of computers!)

On exhaust: don't run anything smaller than 2.5".

What are you running for a fuel system?

What are you running for an oil pan?

Have you calculated your actual compression ratio?

Well, THe fuel system, is a 3/8 line, a carter fuel pump, 780 performance holly 780. My biggest concern is exhaust.
I have the 2 chamber flowmasters, and the pipes are brandnew, i got them put on for my 318, and then pulled the 318, and dropped in eh 440.
The pistons are Mopar performance, 9 to 1, and i have 906 heads. I am not sure if that helps any.

Dont touch that engine. That cam is a good cam. I wont be worth it. I see why the tri-y headers now. Your car should fly!

Sounds like a good street engine. It should have allot of low/mid range power. It will probbably be fairly easy to maintain and run on pump gas.

I run almost the exact combo you have (including the cam) in my charger. same gear ratio. only difference is that I have full length 1 3/4 primary hedmans. that motor/cam will get you into the twelves easy, very streetable. idles at 800 rpm all day. I agree that there are better grinds out there, and I am considering one. But, that's after driving the car for 3 years. since you just got the motor in, try it for a while. It may turn out to be everything you want. then if you do not like it, change it. not the end of the world to change it later on.
