Default Which carb for my intake?

I recently purchased a used Offenhauser dual quad intake for my 440 but can't determine which carburetor it takes. The intake is a low rise marked 360 and I believe it is a single plane. The bolt pattern is approximately 3 7/8" X 3 7/8", which is much too small for any of the Holleys or Carters (Edelbrock) I have been able to try. Please help if you can.

By the way, anybody care to guess how performance will change when I mount this intake and carbs on my 440? I currently run a Performer RPM with a Holley 700 Double Pumper, a Hughes cam with 223/230 degrees duration and .504/.515 lift, 452 heads that have been mildly ported, headers with 1 7/8" primaries through 3" Purple Hornies (crap, these are LOUD!). Compression ratio is low (8.2:1) and car is relatively heavy at 4300 lbs. 727 tranny with approx. stall of 2100 and 456 gears. My guess is that performance will suffer but it will be fun to try.

Thanks for your help and opinions.

I think with the set up you have, and especially the weight your performance will suffer huge. I put a tunnel ram on one of my cars and couldnt keep the bowls filled. Not enough fuel line volume. It will look nice but expect NO bottom end.

It uses Carter WCFBs. It's a REALLY old manifold. WCFBs in useable or rebuildable condition are very hard to find, and if you do find them and put 'em on, your performance will go down the toilet.... but it will LOOK very cool!

Hey if your looking for more performance. I have a torker 2 for sale... 100 bucks, plus I got several carbs that would work great for ya 850 dp, or 650 dp, 983 Barry grant, 1050 dominator...

I think a better intake and a 850 will work great for most performance will kill fuel milage though.... will make you a great package deal on them.

325 bucks for both plus shipping.

Sell that intake to an old-school street rodder, because you're
already running a near-ideal carb/intake for your car and engine.

If you absolutely HAD to go the dual-four route, Edelbrock makes
a much better 2 x 4 intake for the 440 (though it's design is a little old).

IMO, your valuable time and money would be better spent elsewhere
on your car (compression increase, better carb, etc.)

Best of luck!

Looks like I will pursue higher compression and will ask on this forum if it is possible to increase by milling the head. I could also increase flow at this time.

By the way, which carb would someone suggest? The engine never sees more than 5500 RPM.

Thanks again.

Look at the 3-5 reply I posted a pic of the one I have.

Is this your intake? The bolt pattern is weird. I purchased the Mr Gasket adapter plates for my intake. You can use spread bore or square bore carbs. That intake is a great power builder. I have run that setup before with 2X 600 vacum holleys with the ports tied togather. There hard too tune but sweet when there right.

Yep, that's my intake. But it's still in the raw. I realize that I would probably lose performance but my fun in this comes as much from looks as power. Besides, it's not that hard to change back. I have a couple of carter 500's that would work pretty good if I can find the adapters. I'm thinking maybe an extra hood with a hole cut in it for velocity stacks. Great for weekend cruisin'. Thanks for the heads up.

I have that same intake for a low deck 383-400 and it uses adaptor flanges right from offy that attach with countersunk bolts and have the dual bolt pattern for square hole carbs, both carter and holley. If you can find someone who sells offy stuff, those flanges are listed in an old catalogue I have. I run a pair of 500 afbs on it and on the motor we ran it on before, it worked great from idle to 6000 rpm. Those manifolds look great polished BTW.
