Default intake, carb and AC

Ok well I've finally located the funds to purchase a new carb and linkage I'm going to be installing next week and had a few basic questions. The vehicle is a 72 Dart with a 318. Now I've done this swap before on a 69 Coronet with the same motor So I'm going to assume it's pretty much the same. The only difference between the two is the Dart has AC, which I want to remove during the intake/carb swap. My question is what should I look out for and does anyone know the new belts I should get??

Thanks in advance

You need the pulley's and brackets from a non a/c car and any parts store can get you the belts.

so I have to swap pulley's too? That sucks. could I use the pulleys from the coronet? (hope I still have em ) It's always one more part I gotta buy Made the mistake of thinking I had it all when I bought the carb, linkage and gaskets......oh well, thats half the fun of being a gearhead

You might get lucky and some of the old might fit, but why not get it all when you track down that junker with the stock stuff. If they are the least bit out of alignment the will wear and throw the belts off.

Yes it will swap too, but if you all ready have a double pulley alt. it will be the same thing. Most non a/c had a double pulley alt except in the older ones like my '68 and '69 RoadRunners.

So if the alternator pulley should be the same, which ones should I be replacing then? If the alternator is staying the same shouldn't the others line up too? or is that too much to hope for?

Alt. spacing did not change much over the years. The non a/c cars run the belts real close to the water pump housing. Without the right water pump pulley, crank pulley the belts will rub on the pump. The a/c alt belts go over and around the pump on some models. On some non a/c models the alt.belt goes around the wtr. pump and crank, and some go under the pump to the crank and the wtr. pump shares with thepwr. steer pulley. See how many combo's I listed just from memory. I'm sure a missed a couple. The pwr. steer pump doesn't move over the years either so no need for it.

Hope it helped. Just find you a complete doanner car at the salvage yard and you are there with every thing you'll need. Small price for more hp from that carb and intake.

Holley Carb 209.99
Gaskets and sealant 30.00
Linkage 109.99
Misc Parts 50.00

ABILITY TO MAKE IT THROUGH AN INTERSECTION BEFORE THE LIGHT TURNS RED...........PRICELESS

The old carb's accelerator pumps were totally dead so the start off velocity of the old dart just wasn't up to par. At least now I wont get honked at when the light turns green and I dont make it thru till the red light hehe
