Default E-Body Leaf Springs

Does anyone know why leaf springs on an e-body are not parallel? I just notice this when taking measurements for new wheels. I thought there may be something wrong with my 'cuda so I measured a friends Challenger, and the measurements were identical. The centerline dimension at the front spring eye is 45", and the centerline dimension at the rear spring eye is 47 3/4".

Yes. The e-body is the widest of all the bodies. They are not parallel for handling reasons. The offset spring hanger and shackle sets, move the rear of the spring farther in than the front, thus making the springs paralell. This is done solely for more tire clearance.
