It was an option. It was available in all first gen. Neons. Visual clues unique to the DOHC cars are a bulge on the right side of the hood and dual tail pipes. That's provided the car is stock and un-molested. Some like the looks of the DOHC hood and will put them on their SOHC Neons. Still, look under the hood to verify though.

The Only Models that all came with DOHC engine are the R/T , ACR Coupe,Sport, and I believe Expresso...not 100% on that one. dont get sport confused with "sport coupe" sport coupe came with bulge hood and all but only had a SOHC. to make things even more confusing, they ran short of SOHC 2.0's because they were also put in the breeze/stratus...so they gave free upgrades to some neons regardless of trim package. The only complete tell tale sign is the dual outlet exhaust, because some SOHC did have the bulge hood, but all DOHC had the bulge hood too.

My Bad then Dart, but all "sport coupes" I have seen were SOHC, so I thought they werent availablle with DOHC. Im wondering if it was an option to upgrade, or if it was one of the "free" upgrades due to shortage of SOHC.....oh well, im not gonna lose sleep over it. lata.
BTW if anyone is interested, visit the FAQ at www.neons.org it can answer just about any questions you might have about neons. |
