Question Headers & Mounts for a 354 Hemi going in a 74 'Cuda

Hello all, I am going to be putting a 354 Hemi in my 74 SB 'Cuda. I am also getting a pair of Sanderson Block hugger headers with it. I have 2 questions.

1. Will the block huggers be tucked in enough to squeeze between the block and the ps unit? I know on my 360 there isn't much space between the no 1 & 3 exhaust ports. But my thought was since the actual exhaust ports on the Hemi will be higher, the headers could tuck in close enough before it reaches my ps unit.???

2. I have also read that the stock SB motormounts and their locations will bolt right on the Hemi with no adapters needed. Is this true?

I just wanna save some frustration and bloody knuckles before I get going on this project. So if anyone has put an old 354 in an E-Body and could give me some advice on this, that would be great!! Thanks

heh, never seen a 354 in an ebody, hell, i've never even seen a 354. but you can always measure the locations of the mounts on yer 360block, and see if they match.. but worst case scenerio, you may have to scratch up some custom mounts, which could be the best thing you could do, since you could slide the motor further back towards the center of the car, making the handling that much better. Cuz i know the 354's arn't lightweights. but the real question is. will the 354 mount to your existing tranny??
while yer doing this swap, take tons of pics, i'm sure people here are just as curious as i am.

I know that there is an tranny adaptor for this swap, I just forget where I have seen it.

I think if you do a search on aol, yahoo, etc.. for "engine adapter" you will find it.

Early Hemi Conversion for B- and E-Bodies

I suggest contacting Larry for more information,
and maybe checking out the conversion info I
picked up from Mopar Charlie. Good stuff.

I love seeing Early Hemis put in E-Bodies.

Default Thanks for the info

Thanks for the info. I know of a place that makes the adapters for the tranny. Right now I have a TF 727 but I will be 4speed some day. That will probably be a while later though, convincing the wife this was a good idea was hard enough as it is.

I will post some before pics as the car sits right now. Then also ones while I am working on it.

Good luck man. If you like torque, the early Hemi will not dissapoint. My brother and I put a 331 in a 79 dodge pickup, and it was great. Spend the money on a good trans adaptor like the one from wilcap or SM transmissions. It works out close to the 318 mounts, but you may have to do some slotting to make it work. Another issue is the oil filter adaptor, it comes off the side of the block at a 45 degree angle and runs right into the frame rail on most cars. A remote filter adaptor will take care of this for you. Don't know about the headers, but I think they will clear. The Hemi ports aim downwards, so that is an advantage. If not, find a set of truck or chrysler 300 rams head manifolds (2 1/2" outlet). They'll probably make the same power as the shorty headers anyway. Send us some pix when you get into this swap.
