Default 8.75" axles... Production or green bearing?

It seems Everyone, including Mopar, has kits to replace the stock tapered axle bearings with pressed ones. I didnt think there was anything wrong with the tapered ones, but there must be some advantage to the pressed ones. What's the goods and bads between the two types? Which do you prefer?

All of the bearings in 8.75" rears are pressed. Are you referring to "green" or ball bearing axle bearings to replace the cone and rollers?

yes, i think you're right. Sorry, i havent had a RWD axle apart in years and years. Yeah, like the competition engineering has the green bearings. MP says "Specifically designed by Mopar to eliminate the production bearing retainers and axle end play adjuster. Each set contains two axle shaft bearings, two bearing retainer sleeves, two axle shaft seals, and two axle flange gaskets.. PN P5249444... so what do these have over the stock setup? I'm actually quite unfamilier with it..

The green ones are so you don't have to set the end play on the axles. Quicker install that way and should be less trouble. I haven't had any trouble in the last 4 years.

The green bearings are great for straight racers. But just looking at them you know there infererior to the tapered Timkins that come factory. Not being tapered they only really NOT ment to support lateral motion. Like going around corners. Besides adjusting the end play? How often does that occur? Only when making a pumpkin swap. For a daily driver I keep My Timkin's

Maybe designed for those who keep changing gears/pumpkins at differant drag strips.

I think AMX is right.
They're intended for racing, yet many folks have used them on the street.
Like previously posted, how often does the owner of a street driven
Mopar actually get into his rear end???

You can do a search for "green bearings" here, as this subject has been
debated to death - with no definitive, ultimate answer.

Consider this inarguable point:
The Green setup, while simpler in design, IS NOT nearly as durable overall
as the tapered OEM Timken design. Chrysler did it right the first time.
If you drive around corners, stay OEM.

Yes, this has been debated to death (and back) too many times. Although the Timken design is supposed to be better, There are people racing circle track with the green bearing and have never had a problem with them. There are people that have been driving them on the street for many years (over 10) and have never had a problem with them.
