Default intake is on THANKS! couple more questions

The intake is on and I really appreciate your help, guys. I understand most of these questions seem easy but I am pretty new at this and would like to ask a few more. Thanks in advance for your help.

1) Are there any problems with mounting my coil on the fender or firewall? I really hate the way it looks on the intake.

2) I have 2 vacuum lines coming out of a fitting on top of my water pump housing near the distributor. The fitting looks similar to a sending unit. Can I just plug them off? What are they for?

3) Can I trash the kickdown linkage and manually shift down when I want to?

Thanks again.

1] coil,- that would be ok. Keeps it farther away from the heat of the block.

2] vacuum tee-Looks like a part for the heat sensing stuff for the distributor timing retard/advance circut. My van has that, a '74 I eliminated it but don't know how it works. I hate emissions.

3] linkage-NO- it is necessary so the trans can up shift at the proper time based on throttle position and speed, ect. And done properly for passing and going up hills, ect. The only time would be if you had a totaly manual shift kit or valve body installed.

1) mount the coil where you want. It is actually better on the fender (less vibration and heat)

2) don't know

3) Leave the kickdown in place. It serves a function. If you disconnect it and tie the lever full forward, you will shift early an destroy the tranny. If you tie it full back, it will always shift late and cause harsh shift, even when you don't want them. If you want to shift it yourself, install a manual valve body.

Default fitting

sounds like temperature operated vacuum fitting, only needed for emmissions crap, if you don't have any, just remove it, the coil will be fine on the fender, and don't remove the kickdown plate, you need it for proper operation of the transmission

OK. I plugged the vacuum port and moved the coil. Great. Now I need to hook up the linkage. I can find a bracket for the throttle linkage but nothing at all for the kick down linkage. Anyone have any ideas? I am almost desperate.

Maybe you should just put a manual valve body in it. It may be a little less convenient to drive but it will allow you to select any gear at any time. Starting in second gear in the snow works good sometime. Actually, you could start out in second during normal driving if you want.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Actually, I think the manual valve body is a great idea. Don't mind having to shift. I just don't want to turn loose of the cash for a shifter and the valve body right now.

But I can't find a way to mount the kick down linkage due to the increased height of the Performer RPM with a 1" phenolic spacer.

I was hoping someone knew of a trick bracket to handle the throttle and tranny linkage together. Or maybe just a bracket for the kickdown.

By the way, this Ramcharger is original with the 440 and 727 transmission, if that matters.

why not get the cable kit. it replaces all linkage with a cable for the kickdown.

mancini racing and bouchillon performance sell them. summit and jegs might have them also.

Summit and Jeg's both sell the Lokar cable. It's an easy install and will save your tranny.

Thanks for the advice. I liked the Lokar kickdown cable so much that I bought the bracket and cable for the throttle. Don't know what I would do without you guys. Thanks again!
