383 six pack questions
OK. I purchased the 69 Roadrunner and am interested in putting a six pack on top but have a couple of questions.
The engine will be mildly hot street build (approx 9.5:1, headers, Hughes HE 2330 BL cam with 223/230 duration and .504/.515 lift, four speed ). How does the performance compare between 3X2 carbs and a single four barrel (Carb suggestions appreciated. I am leaning towards a 750 dbl pumper) on an intake such as Edelbrock Torker? Also, what is approximate price and good place ot buy cars and intake? Mopar Performance or Edelbrock intake best? Thanks!! |

If you are going to try to keep it original the 3x2 with correct carbs, intake and linkage will cost $$$$$$$ more than the single 4 and the 3x2 if not tuned correctly will not run with the 4 bbl set up

Depends on what you are after. If you are looking at performance and $$s. Go with the 4 bbl. Much easier to tune and work on and will cost a lot less than a 3x2. If you want to turn heads and inspire "aw", hands down, go with the 3x2 set up. You won't lose that much performance over a 4 bbl set up on a mildly hot engine.

Well, what I want is 50% performance and 50% gee whiz factor but 100% fun. This car will probably only see the strip a few times for the fun of it. But it will see the street several times weekly.
I have found a Mopar Performance P54529055 intake. It is a dual plane and new in the box for $279, which is $40 less than Mancini. Is this a good street intake? Is there a particular carb I need? Where to find it? Thanks again. |

Nothing sounds better than a 6 pack, except two fours.
Oh, by the way, I happen to have a factory 2X4 manifold for sale. |

You will need two diff carbs, one center carb and two outboad carbs
If I were you I'd listen to Ed and buy the 3x2 unit complete will save lots of time and head ache |

by all means buy the whole kit from somebody like Mancini as there are special brackets for the coil, return spring and throttle linkage as well as a special choke for the intake, its much cheaper to get everything in a kit than to buy it seperately. The kit should also come with the air cleaner base plate and lid, get the K&N filter if the area sees alot of dirt as the stock ones can get expensive compared to just cleaning and re-oiling the K&N
