Default what should it run (duster) ?

Trying to get a ballpark figure on how this duster should run at the track. It was a 1970 225/auto car, then sported a 340/727 combo. We are getting ready to install a built 416ci 340 stroker motor. Its a 69 340 block .030 with a forged4in crank. It is using eagle h beam rods, wiesco 11.5:1 comp forged pistons. The cam is a racer brown grind, I dont remember the specs off the top of my head but its 240/240ish 512/512 ish. The heads for now are stock J heads with just minor clean up work and a set of comp cams roller rockers. the motor is topped off with an eldebrock air gap rpm manifold and a holley 750 double pumper, gasses are expelled through a set of long tube hookers with 2.5in duals and flowmasters. The ignition is a msd distributor, and 6al box...no freaking points..heh the tranny is a race built 727, with a reverse manual valve body with a supposed 3600rpm convertor, but it seemed to flash to 4k with the 340 in the car. the rear is an 8.75 with 3.91 gears in it. the car has full interior, and no weight savers such as fiberglass body pannels. Assuming I can get some tire under the car.. probably a 26x10.5x15 et drag...what do you guys think it should pull at the track?

thanks

No I'm not kidding. A guy here at work had a 440 with .509 cam in a '70 Challenger. He asked me the same questian. I told him he'd be lucky to get in the low 13's. He expected 11's. His first time on the strip was a 13.7. After tuneing the engine he took the rest of the summer dialing in the traction problem. Then he had to do the engine again as the traction was affecting the engine output. Bogging. After getting it all together, the NEXT year he was turning high 11's.

Moral of this story;

1] don't ask a questian unless you are willing to except the worse.

2] don't expect the best at the first. It takes time and experimenting.

3] this is something we can only guess at.

good luck

according to desktop dyno and drag, here goes:
engine:
512lb/ft at 2000
332hp at 4000

car, as you say 12.24 at 106
with changes:
3.55 gear and 5000 stall:11.69 at 109.
hop[e this helps.

sounds like you need better heads and a stouter cam

Ok youre combo is similar to mine.If you have it tuned no bogs you should run 12.2 @110 +. I run a stroker with E heads and similar cam but am at 4500' elevation and get 12.4 @106 2.0 60ft. Oh I had 4.30 gears and ran out of gear @ little more than 1000 ft. I swapped gears to 3.91 and ran 1/8 mile at higher elevation much hotter day ran two mph less than previos 1/8 mile times.

you really want to make it run, open up those heads, and get at least an 850 carb, it will really sing, ive got a 366, 590 cam, max ported j's, m1-850 b/grant, 456gears, and 28-10.5-15, traction is a definate problem, leave the line at 3000-3200 is only way to keep from spinning, have a 4500 stall, it runs looow 11's at over 120, your stroker is gunna want more carb head and tire,
gauranteed.

First, the heads, next the tires, then the carb.

As you describe it now, I'd bet mid- to low 13s.

I think after tuned in and good traction low 12's will be pretty easy! My uncle has a 62 max wedge he runs about 4-5 times a season (all stock) even the super skinny tires 3 speed in the floor runs 13 sec flat with zero traction!

The car went a best of a 13.2 before that last cam thats listed with just the 10.5:1 comp 340 in it. The heads are getting done in the spring, going with either the nice indy aluminum set or the eldebrock ones...any pros or cons with either? Just amy dropping th block off this week to the machine shop, have all the parts ready to go. Should be up and running in a month.

thanks for the input guys

Max wedges are the highest development of the wedge MOPAR engine.

I'll take bets on his times, as the car now sits.
