Remote Oil Cooler?Question??
I've bought one of those new SMP polished billet aluminum timing chain covers for my 340 stroker project and along with it I'm going to be using an Meziere electric water pump, what I'm considering now doing is running a remote oil cooler to help cool things down as I'm hearing conflicting stories as to whether or not an electric water pump can handle the cooling job for street use. Anybody use one and or any thoughts?? Thanks.

I have a remote oil cooler and remote oil filter because I do autocross. I don't have any problems with it.
I don't have an electric water pump. I have a heavier duty one. I haven't heard of any problems with the electric water pump when using it on a street engine. Someone else will have to tell any info on that possibility. |

I think an engine oil cooler is a good idea any time you take an engine to its limits. I think a stroker 340 is probably pushing the limits a bit if you intend to run the engine for longer periods of time at high output. Track use probably qualifies as does towing. Your call I guess. Some of the newer oil coolers are self regulating in that oil will not flow through the cooler until it's viscosity drops. Oil that is too cold is just as much of a problem as oil that is too hot. I have a car that I use for towing. It has an engine oil cooler that helps keep things under control. It's nice to be able to use the AC when pulling a heavy load ona hot day.
