What is the maximum size tire and wheels can you fit on a stock 70 R/T Challenger. I would like to add some 15X8 or 15X10 Centerlines with 275/60-15 tires?

Any suggestions?

The biggest rear tire/wheel combo is a 15x8 with 4.75(yes,4.75) backspace., This will barely get under with a 275x60x15. Been there and still doing it!!!

VanishPt: Do you have you wheel lips rolled? When I tried to use 275's, I would get rubbing on the outer fenders or springs, depending on how I had the backspacing (used spacers to experiment). It would only happen on hard cornering, but was enough to damage the tires. I didn't roll the lips because of the wheel opening moldings that would look funny.

I have the wheel lip moldings also. When I had 4.5" backspacing I had to "slightly" roll just the centers of them. If I had used a 4.75" backspace, I probably would not have had to.

Thanks, I will try 4.75 backspacing on 275/60 -15's on the back...

What seems to give you the best traction for the strip...Have you used the BFG Drag Radials / Nittos / M&H / etc....

I've heard mixed messages about the BFG's hooking up....

What wheels are available witha 4.75 inch backspacing? Has anyone run a 225/70 15 in the front? How about a 205/70 15, or a 225/60 15? What size front wheel?

Red face

Good Point, I have not seen any 4.75" back spacing, so I went with a 4.50 " Weld Wheel and some M/T 26.5 X 11.50 X 15. Plenty of room under the wheel wells....could have gone wider...however I did roll the wheel lips slightly before. Was running the 275/50R15 BFG Drag Radial then, but the M/T's seem to hook up better (12 PSI is about right)....

Many manufactures will make up any backspace that you want. You see advertised only the STANDARD SIZES.I called Wheel Vintique, they made the 4.75 backspace at no extra cost. I placed the order thrue Summit. Wheel Vintique sent them straight to my house.

Thumbs up

I had a 73' that I put 15X10's on with 50/50 backspacing. I used 275/60R15's and had to add an extra overload spring to the rear leafs as the tire would rub the wheel well on bad roads. I agree with the guys going with the 15X8's. I looked like a high school kid going down the street...Must be why a high school kid bought the car from me.
