Default Water pumps?

I recently salvaged some parts from the junkyard for my 360, The van I got my parts from had a viscous fan and a different water pump. The water pumps snout has ridges instead of round holes and six blades instead of 8. Is this a higher output unit. Can you test the fan while not on the car. I would like to use these parts in my engine rebuild. The water pump has no play. Also is the hole on the bottom of the snout normally plugged or open? Thanks for any help as I am trying to stay to my budget.

The hole in the snout is an open/non pluged hole.
If this came from an A/C car/truck, then it,s output is higher.
I dont know how to test the viscous unit off (Or on ) the car.
If it spins when you shut the car off, and the engine is cold on a cold day, OK, half the puzzle done. 2nd, shut off the car when hot. It shouyld not or barley spin. Then, I would think it working.
There are replacement clutchs on the market if needed.

The engine was an 80 van w/ac. if the pump is tight is there any reason not to use it in a rebuild. There is a stamp on it that says 80 and I'm assuming its the original unit. Thanks again for the help.

Use it all, judge later. If it's tight, it's good to go.

The water pumps with 6 impellers are normally for A/C cars, the 8 impeller unit is for non A/C.
The 8 impeller pumps actually move more water at a given rpm but are usually driven 1-1 by the pullies. On A/C cars, the pullies are smaller on the water pump and there is a 20-40% overdrive (to increase the fan speed at idle for the A/C). At the higher overdrive speeds the 8 impeller pumps would cavitate.

when you are talking rebuild, a new pump is not that much money. I think of it as cheap insurance. Even a real nice one from flow kooler is 80 bucks. check this link, brand new pump with a warranty, and only 35 bucks. I would rather have either one of these than a junkyard unit.

Default H 2 O pump

My advice based on experiance is..
Buy a new water pump. The 2 times I went with the old pump that came off (and by the way was not leaking when removed) caused me to tear down the front of the engine again and replace the NOW leaking pump. Lots of work for a part that should have been new anyway for reliablity reasons. The old pump had MANY miles on it and would have failed soon anyway.

It is just not worth the trouble to be unsure anyway.

my 2 cents, take or leave it..Dave

Thanks for all the help and the information. I will go with a new pump. Trying to keep in my budget but it seems like cheap insurance.
