Default 383 Valve Seal Help

Hi guys, I got a quick question. Posted over on Moparts, but 74 views and no answer . Anyways, the only thing holding up me and putting my engine together are these stinkin valve seals. I ordered some from Mopar, I got 8 of each pictured. Is one type for the intake valve, the other for the exhaust? Or do I need to order another set . Thanks

I would not think it matters! How could it? They only have one job right. I would use the tall one for the intakes, and the short one for the exhaust. I think ones what they call semi Umbrella and the other is Umbrella. Both good for duel purpose Street/racer. Run them!

Default valve seals

The umbrella seals are for the exhaust side, and other seal intake side. What valve spring are you using as I have heard the umbrella seal will not have enough room on a double valve spring.

The seal on the left is for the intakes. They need the deeper seal because there is vacuum on the valve stem that tends to pull excess oil into the combustion chamber.
The shallow seal on the right is for the exhaust which needs more lube on the valve stems.

The umbrellas will work with a double exhaust spring. I know for a fact that the '77 (I'm not sure about other years, someone help me out here) came with a double exhaust spring and those umbrellas. Yea, like the other fellahs said, the left one is the intake and the right is the exhaust.

Are you sure your'e not talking about a damper instead of an inner spring. With dual springs the inner dia. is too small for a umbrella seal and positive seals are used. The outer dia. of the guide is turned down as well as the lip on the bottom removed when dual springs are used.
