Changing fuel filter
I've got a '96 3500, 2 wheel drive, automatic, changed the fuel filter the other day and like to have never got it going again. My last dually was a '93 D350 and it had a primer pump, does the '96 have one and where might it be located? A friend said the '96 has some type of priming system but I can't seem to locate it.
Thanks |

It will have a lever on the lift pump. you need to pump it at least 60 strokes, maybe more now if you cranked the motor with the filter empty. You have air in the system.
So, pump the lift pump then loosen the line at each injector and crank it. When you see fuel leaking at an injector, tighten it and go to the next and repeat. When all six are done it will start and most likely run rough for a few seconds. Btw, the lift pump may have a botton instead of a lever. If you do not feel resistance with the lift pump you may need to rotate the motor 1/2 turn and re-try it. |
