Gripe 72 904, can't find neutral?

I'm having a problem finding neutral on a 72 Dart 318/904 combo.
The car has been sitting for about 2 1/2 years. The car does not run, so I'm simply shifting from park to neutral to push the car.
Could this be a simple linkage problem?
What else would cause a failure to shift into neutral?

Any help would be appreciated.

an easy way to check would be to crawl under(block the wheels!) remove the linkage and shift it by hand, then you could roll it.

Yea, Just knock the linkage off and move it by hand. Remeber pull it all the way back towards the back of the car, and 2 clicks forward towards the front. It should roll in any gear really, except park of coarse. You dont think ypu could have a sticky brake somewhere do ya? Might wanna jack it up and spin the wheels, just to check.

Two possibilities, either there is a linkage malfunction and the trans is stuck in Park or the clutches have stuck together inside and make it difficult to push the car.
If the engine isn't running, any gear but Park is neutral.

I don't think it's the brakes, because I can get the car to rock back and forth. I think it's either the clutches or it's stuck in park. I can't get the car to roll in any gear.

I think I'm going to drop the drive shaft, push it into the garage, get it up on jack stands, then try to figure out the problem.

If it is the clutches, how do I fix that?

Transmission overhaul. Go through it with all new parts.
