Default experts help!!!

My sons 440 is popping above 3000 rpm I have just installed a malory unilite, new everything in the ing. plugs wires cap etc. running a mopar purple mild cam with mopar lifters, no decking, stock pushrods, new carter carb, fully balanced engine, ran fine for a little while then started popping, slight miss you can barely feel but behind the car in hard acceleration it is very noticeable. Also running a msd rev limiter with 6000 chip and a monster tack with a shift light. the thing will rev easily to bang the rev limiter and really runs well except the popping.. help even if it sound unlikely I will try anything

check your plugs again. you may have picked up a piece of carbon on a plug. i have had this happen to me only a few days after i installed new plugs. this does not cost anything.

Question Popping?

Do you have headers? Make sure they are tight. I have had that problem in the past and the headers had worked loose.

Just thinking out loud.

Could be plugs. Has it been running fine with the same equipment before and this is a new development? Or has it just started since a rebuild or some other equipment change?

Possibilities include but not limited to

Lean fuel mixture

Plug wires arcing, especially around headers

Cracked spark plug, it's easy to do and you may not even know it happened.

Timing to far advanced, you shouldn't need anymore than 38 degrees all in by 3000 rpm's. If it's up around 45 or more degrees here you will get these symptoms.

Weak or insufficient valve spring load.

These are the places I would start. Let us know what you find.

Yes, check the plugs, even replace them with new ones again. I had a miss and pop in my daughters car and had just installed all new plugs. Found 2 of them that were no good straight out of the package. Just cause they are new doesn't mean they are good. This is the cheapest fix to start with. Maybe this isn't it but start with the obvious.

So is it a High speed miss? Which Cam is it your running? Does it have a 2 Step control on it? I have seen that happen with to much lifter preload, I doubt thats the problem. Read Skanks post again he's got what I would look at also.
