Torque specs on 383 exhaust headers?
Hello,
I blew out an exhaust manifold gasket on my 70 Cuda 383. The car has headers. I will be attempting to replace the manifold gasket today, and I would like some advice from anybody who has done this *the right way* before. I also need to know how much torque to apply to the manifold bolts when I am done, and if there is a special sequence. The gasket I bought is the standard Fel-Pro type you get at Kragen Auto Parts. Thanks for any advice! |

My motors manual(1964-1970) says 25 ft lbs,and only shows 5 nuts on the drivers side, apparently originally the last one on the drivers side wasnt used but has a short stud in the bolt hole, but thats for manifolds,I also wouldnt use anything but premium header gaskets and youll want to inspect the sealing surface for imperfections,if it looks warped youll want to tighten it down so as to flatten out the warp,if its real bad it will happen again shortly,be sure to retighten them after a couple of heat cycles and recheck them periodically, you can purchase header bolt thet have a posi lock from Jegs or Summit, hope this helps......PRO...
