Default best street tire

my car needs traction and right now im torn on what tire to buy. a long time ago i had micky Ts sportsman"I" and i thought they were great. but i have been hearing alot of good things about the bf drag radials. the car is street driven and would like to get some milage out of the new tires. handling is not that important. what do you guys like? bias or radial? micky or bf???????? other?

BFG Drag Radials are great at the track!! I run the radial t/a's on the street and have 2 drag t/a's mounted on 2 spare rims just for the track. At $125 per tire, they are too expensive to risk picking up a nail or other hazard on the street! With the drag t/a's, I dropped a half second off my 60 foot time at the track.

No radial compares with MT's, according to the latest , I think, car craft tests.

How much meat are you looking for? 10 inches>>???

what's your ride?

( I just bought a set of BFG T/A radials, needing not to kill myself in daily driving, and only having 7 inch wide rims)

440 six pack challenger. yes, i would like to get 10 under the wheel wells. thats the problem i see with the radials is a 275/60/15 is 8.8 inches wide and 28 tall but the micky sports"I" i can get a L60 and 10" tread and 28 tall and i know they will stick but i dont know if i'm just being out dated.

the hoosier qt, i havent looked into them but i thought they were basically a slick. i am lookin into taking some longer drives in the car and that worries me.

this is another point.. i dont want to be changing tires just to go to the track. if someone pulls next to me at a stop light, i dont want to get the jack out and start changing tires while i'm waiting for the light to turn green. the way it is now, i'll melt the goodyear eagle gtIIs off the rim before i get 60 ft.

before the questions start.. i have a pinion snubber, unclamped leafs and the sway bar diconnected in the front. 3:55s

the hoosier qt is a street tire.
i drive on the street all year, no problem if i get caught in the rain. drop tire pressure to 11 and your gone!!!!!! tubes and some wheel screws help with low pressure
275 are 11"tread

10sec340, do you run 10s with a full exhaust on your car?
you said you drop air pres if it rains, what air pres do you run at the track? are these tires a 2 ply wrinkle wall type of tire?
gonna go to summit to look at these tires.
your wrong about the 275 being 11" tread. 11" wide but only around 9 of it thouches the ground.

The french own BFG and my next tires will be anything that won't put money in their pockets.

I'm going with Hoosiers or MT's the next time.

drop pressure at the track, i can drive in the rain if stuck in it !!
they are the soft compound street tire(lots of tread) do wrinkle when racing.
10.55 last wens night with mufflers that stop at the rear.
i use the qt ,not pro qt wich is more a slick, have this pair for 2 years and will easily get this summer out of them

10sec340, i see you have the 50 series, mine on the car are 60s.
i think you just sold me a pair. maybe if hoosier had you as a salesman, they wouldnt be discontinueing these tires.

gthomas, thanks for that info. i feel the same way and wasnt aware of that.

gotta say i used a set of quick times on my duster and they were worth it, they stuck like no other, but remember, if you are using radials up frt and go to bias ply on the rear, the handling of the car takes alittle getting used to

My car handles like crap with bias tires on. I mean scary. It drives like a dream with radials.
I really need the traction too.

i went off the deep end. after much consideration, the hoosier's might be the best but are the most expensive plus they need tubes and i would also want to put bias tires on the front, more money.
micky t's, they worked awsome on my roadrunner but i lived in a small town with alot of stop and go driving. i live in a highway dominated area now so after 70 barracudas last post i thought handling was going to be more important than i was thinking it was going to be.
than gthomas enlightened me to the problems with bfgoodridge drag radials.
and the winner is nitto drag radials. just ordered them from discount tire direct. free shipping. i thought i would try them and let everyone know how they.

my car goes over 130mph in the 1/4, no problem. also drive on the street no problem, even drive 55mph over 20 miles to a race spot every sunday,on the parkway !!no problem.......
they dont wear down, and they hook hard... so spend a little more now, will out last all the other street/race tires!!

I have not tried them all, but at least M/T ET Streets seem to be better than Hoosier QT's The QTP's may be even better than the ET Streets, but haven't been able to try them yet. However, all of the DOT slicks should give easy 1.60 sec 60 ft times. My best with the ET Streets was 1.40 on SS springs, and if you do only small burnouts they last pretty well in the street too.

10 sec340, i respect your reasons for the qt but i just dont have $600 to lay out for tires right now and since they are gonna stop making them i wouldnt want to fall in love with the qts than one day they wear out and my life becomes miserable without them. see it even sounds sad, doesnt it.
