Help Poor Fuel Economy

I put a 1998 Dodge Magnum 360 in my 1983 Ramcharger. I was getting about 16mpg on the highway with the Carter TQ that was on the original 360, and was hoping to get better with the new engine with the MPFI. Unfortunately I am averaging about 9-11 mpg. The engine had 16,000 when I installed it, it starts quick, runs great plenty of power, no signs of fuel fouling in the exhaust or plugs, and the converter and 02 sensors are new. The only thing I can come up with as far as a guess, is that the gear ratios an weight were calculated in the PCM for the original application and with the weight of the RC (6400) and rear end ratio (3:21) it is doing the best it can. If anyone has any suggestions I would really appreciate it. I have replaced the TPI sensor, and the MAP sensors, but it made no difference.

Thanks,

Mcguyver
(tried duct tape too)

Information addition: The engine a 360 Magnum w/MPFI, the PCM
Dash, wiring harnesses, sensors, fuel injection pump, and all necessary things to make this a "plug and play installation" were installed off the same vehicle. I am using a T-518 transmission.

your engine is way out of design specs for that fuel system. MP does now make a replacement MPI magnum, but yours isn't.

You'll need a way to adjust the fuel map...good luck!

How can the fuel system be out of the design specs, when thats the engine it was designed for, and built for? Got the ecu, harness, engine all from the same truck right?

Are you using the same exhaust system?

Have you tried a scan of the DAta?

Maybe one of those reprogramming units for OBDII cars would be of help for you.
