Question Water pump and housing - which is best?

The water pump on my '68 383 finally let go and started leaking. I want to upgrade to aluminum for the housing and possibly the pump itself. Does anyone have any thoughts on the best brands. I was thinking of getting a
Mopar Performance housing and a Milodan pump. Milodan seems to get high marks with folks - I'm looking for something that will increase flow and lower my temperature. Do you'all think there is a difference from pump to pump or are manufacturers just blowing smoke? Maybe I should just get the Mopar pump as well. Also aluminum versus a steel pump? I'm building my ride to ulitmately go as fast as possible at the track and still be streetable. Thanks for any help.

I'd get the mp stuff. Always order an a/c water pump. The will flow slightly more water. If your parts store dont offer a choice they are rebuilt units for the store. If new they will always ask or at least have two different numbers.

I compared big block pumps last summer, when I needed a new one.
The Milodon, Flowkooler, and Edelbrock all utilize the same basic design
to achieve their high-performance flow characteristics. The Edelbrock
is easily the nicest pump, but also way more $$ than others. It would
be a great combination with the MP alum. water pump housing, if your
budget permits.

I went with the Flowkooler pump, for two reasons:
- Same basic design/construction as Milodon
- Lifetime limited replacement warranty (Milodon has a "100% satisfaction
guarantee", whatever that is)

The MP alum. pump utilizes the OEM-style impeller - not as good as the
aftermarket pumps.

Whichever route you go, definitely utilize a high-flow thermostat.

The OEM cast unit, an A/C unit as mentioned, works fine with the MP alum housing. I have trouble with that much extra for that small amount of alum. The only difference is the plate, all the internals are steel.
