As frustration sets in....
I recently finished the bottom end for the 328 and tonite I got the MP reusable oil pan gasket set in place and put the pan on. Pan is a chrome but stock shape for the 318 and the gasket is the MP fiber type as I hate cork. My problem is that one of the front corners against the timing cover keps pushing out on the end piece. It cut off the locator tab and pushed completely out with a very thin coating of sealer and about 10 ft lbs of torque on the hex nuts. The bolts have been converted to studs with gold cad hex nuts, stainless lockwashers and #5 black studs. And yes, the chrome pan and timing cover have both been scuffed for better adhesion of the sealer. Any tips or ideas?? Tired of trying to push the corner back in.....

The reuseale gasket is fiber. ...Let the sealent cure a bit. Tighten slowly. This could be a long time in waiting.

Thanks Rumble,
I've gently used a pair of Vise-Grips on the edge of the pan to try and help hold the corner in place until the sealer cures for 24 hours. Black RTV usually doesn't take that long... |
