Default Cam for 360

I plan on using a stock 4 barrel intake, Thermoquad carb from Demon Sizzler, dual exhaust, aftermarket 9.0:1+ pistons, and one of the following cams in my 360. The engine is going a fairly big truck, 52 Fargo, with small gears, 2.76 (for now). I am just looking or opinions and advise:

Comps Xtreme Energy Hydraulic
XE268H
224/230, 0.477/.480

Comps Magnum Hydraulic
270H
224/224, .470/.470

Would these cams be a good choice, I'm looking more for torque and good throttle response over high RPM's.

There was an article that I read. I just can't remember what rag had it.
They compared both cams in an engine. The winner was the Magnum cam over the Extreme because of head flow. The head used was ported very well. It didnt need the extra exhaust duration and even fell off in power.
Now, you can see what head flow is all about. Simalar cams, different readouts.
I'm gonna go look for it.

Wow thanks Rumblefish, I don't plan on doing extensive porting however, I'm just going to remove that bump for the breather in the exhaust port.

Thats what I was thinking, and for whatever reason, the power range starts 200 rpm lower and reaches 5800 like the Magnum.

HA! Found it. A good article in the Sept. 2002 Hot Rod Mag.

It has a quick explanation of how some cams work better than others. It depends on head flow.
The artical says that engines with a exhaust flow70% less than that of the intake likes split pattern cams.
Engines with heads that have better exhaust flow tend to like single pattern cams. Over 80%
The gray area is between 70% & 80%.
This is for Hyd. cams in mild engines. Mech. cams change the ball game a little due to there agressive design. In a more agressive engine, things change.
Race cars could still like dual patter cams better. The spit patterm holds peak power longer than the single pattern cams do. But not more power.
This also works for torque as well. If you have more torque for a longer period of time, the car will scoot down the track faster than an engine with greater torque output for a shorter time.
It's a shame we can just change cam after cam to see whats best for our ride.
IMO, I would use the 265DEH W/211-227 DUR. & .442-.462 Lift with those 2.76 gears in the truck.
