Thumbs up First run with new truck (pics)

Well, this week was my first run with my new 2000 CTD. I was very impressed. I figure I have about 14000 pounds behind it. I went from Colorado Springs, CO to Moab, Utah for some 4wheeling. I had to go through the rockies on I-70. That is alot of steep climbs and the truck did great. I was down to about 35 mph on some of the hills but considering the load, not bad. On the flats, I was comfortable at around 75 mph, but most hills I was able to go 55 - 65. Here is a shot before leaving the house. Tim

Default Trailer question

Hey man, That's a nice trailer you got there. You mind if I ask you the dimensions and where you got it made? I have a 32 foot car trailer, made by myself and a friend, and I was looking at going bigger with a goose neck almost like yours...... Do you also have brakes on your trailer?

Nice Setup

I am envious. I need a big GN trailer so I can load a few 4x4 toys on it.

75 mph!! Must have the 3.55 gears. I know my 4.10's won't maintain that without running 2500 rpm +. I really want to change my gears.

J-Body,
Have you considered larger tires? This would change the effictive gear ratio of your truck.

The trailer is an 82" x 30', (3) 7K lbs axles with brakes on all 3. It trailers awesome. You have to look back to know you have a trailer behind you. I think the 4:10 gears would be nice on the hills, but the rest of the time, 3:55s are great. I have had the truck now for 3.5 weeks and I am getting 11.5 MPG in town with a very heavy right foot

I've got the stock 265 tires on mine right now and will be going to a 285. I still think the 3.55 gear would suit my needs better. Pulling a steep grade with the od off you are all done at 40mph. With the 3.55's you can at least go 50-55 and keep things rolling.
