oil cooler recommendations?
Took the Dart out for it's first long trip and it's running really hot (210 under normal highway and temp conditions, up to 225 uphill or working over 4000 rpm).
Before replacing the radiator, I'm looking to add an engine oil cooler. Problem is I've only found one available (from Summit). What do you run for engine oil coolers, and what do you think of it. Also, how do these hook up, from the oil filter boss? And if so, where does the oil filter go then, and how bad does it affect oil pressure? I know lots of questions, but I tried searching the old posts and couldn't find the answers I was looking for. Thanks. |

I have an oil cooler on my AMX w/390. I put in a remote filter as the lines come off the standard oil mount on the side of the block.
There doesn't seem to be any diff. in oil pressure. I got the cooler from the local speed shop. I don't remember the size or brand name. It is about 8"x10"x1 1/2'-2" thick, as I try to picture it. It is one that flows from side to side, and bottom to top is how I have the lines hooked up. From engine to filter, from filter to cooler, from cooler to engine. You can mount the filter anywhere that is open and hopefully in line with the cooler and engine is best. To keep the lines as short as possible. 1/2 " line min. size. 3/4 " max. Using Russell, Airquip or such for the lines and fittings. |
