Default what kind of quarter mile ET should I get

I have a 96 ram, currently, with me in it, it weighs 4854lbs, so we'll add 100 pounds for the big block I'll be dropping in there, I'm building a 451 (75 400, hughes engines 451 kit, edelbroke rpm intake and a 750 cfm carb) I'm expecting somewhere in the lines of 500 to 600 hp (worst case, I'll put it on the bottle a little bit to get that) I have a 4.11 posi (frod 9 inch), I was wondering if anyone here could tell me what I should expect in the quarter, I'm not super in the know on the calculations, but I'm guessing somewhere in the 14s maybe, can someone shed some light on this for me?

my brothers Ferd Lightnin run 13.5 1/4's with nothing more than some Cam II. It has I think 3.5's gears. and weighs 4500 lbs also. Where you at? Elevation wise? I wouldnt think low 13's would be very tough to get. But will take every hosepower as you plan on getting. The bottle will get you in the 12's cool.

I'm not sure about elevation, can't imagine being very high up, I'll be racing at Luskville and Stitsville this summer, of course, I won't have the motor until next year (I can only afford to build it so fast), that's kinda what I'm hoping for, there's a guy in Rockland (where I live) with a Lightning, he says I won't ever be able to beat him, I can't wait to blow his doors off

BJ96, I run at Luskville and want to try the new track near Ottawa this year too. I'd like to see your truck if you're at the track sometime. I have a 70 Cuda, Hemi orange, 440. It's hard to miss!.....djs Almost forgot, Arnie is running a 3 day event in North Bay the last weekend of June-are you planning on attending???

If you're at Luskville on Fridays, I'll be there, for sure (unless of course I blow something (like my tranny), I should be easy to find as well, white ram ext cab, I should mention that the 451, isn't in the truck yet, this summer I'll be running the 318 with a hundred shot, I figure, what the hell if it gernades, I have to get my butt in gear with the 451, I can't wait...I don't even have the truck right now, it's at a shop getting the drop and 9 inch, I hope she runns good, but mostly I hope my tranny lasts the summer, or at least a good part of it

Bj96- it's hard for me to go to Luskville fridays as I'm 200 miles from the track and I work till 5:00! Anyway maybe we'll meet sometime this summer, maybe at the Ottodrome.
Good luck with your 451 project, keep us updated as the buildup progresses.....djs

There are tons of old trucks out there with 8 3/4 rears in it.. but the Phord 9 inch is plentiful and strong.... you won't break it anytime soon and there are lots of gears at swaap meets that you can use..

I would hope you have 31 spline axles in the 9 inch..

Are you planning on driving the truck on the street? How about emission testing?........

Fast Maopars inc. I know, I know, but hey it's a real good rear end, it was rebuilt two years ago and only used a couple times, I tried to find an 83/4, but I couldn't, I also tried to find a Dana 60, but only found one and it was brand new (over two grand) and I would have had to shorten it, so I got the 9 inch, it's not gonna blow, well maybe, but if it blows, it means anything in there would blow, regardless of whether you like Ford or not, it's a good rear, if nothing else at all, it's easy to fix because all you have to do is change the pumpkin
BBaspense: actually it's 32 spline, 4.11 gears, thinker axels, the whole 9 yards, it was in a mud runner, based on a 79 Bronco, as far as emissions goes, I'm not stressed, I'm gonna go this year with my 5.2 (2.5 inch exhaust, 2 cats, 2 flomaster 50 series) if I pass cool, if not, it's only 200$ worth of repairs, then the next time I go (with the 451 in it) I'll have pretty much the same exhaust with dumps (so I can run on open header) and I have to pass the 1980 emissions stadards, so I should be more that safe with that, no prob, and hey worst case scenario, I'm sure there's aguy out there that will be less that honest about it, of course I would rather not go that route

I'm not saying I don't want to go that route cuz I'm like a model citizen, I'm not, it's just that the cops where I live REALLY have it out for me and if they could find a way to burn me, like by taking my truck off the road, they would have a party to celabrate I'm sure, just last week, I was arrested, they pulled me over cuz the windsheild in my Escort has a crack in it about 6 inches long and across the window, and then thye searched my car and found a piece of a leaf under my seat, I'm not kidding here, it was about 1x2 mm, and the F@#%er arrested me for it and took me to the station, laughing the whole time, so you can see, they don't like me, for whatever the reason, I try as much as possible not to break laws, at least when they're around, cuz they don't give a break, actually, I should mention that one of them is alright, I talk to him and whatnot, he pulls me over all the time, but never charges me with anything, usually tells me about some bust he made recently, he's ok, but the rest, for whatever the reason seem to really want to just make my life more difficult

a friend was on vacation in florida and seen a 68 cuda. wile talking to the owner he was told it had a ford 9 inch rearend. Wy he didn't use an 8 3\4 I dont know but I was thinking if he found a driveshaft the right length is there a u joint that would mount it in? Or would he have to have the driveshaft cut and a new end put on it? Again i don't know wy a ford insted of the 8 3\4 but my mind always wants to know how things are done.

p.s. the 9 inch is the only thing ford did right in my openion.
corection the mach 1 is one cool looking car but it needs a hemi.

Your pretty much dead on there, I had my drive shaft cut, with a Ford U joint put on, the balanced, I must say I do agree about the 9 inch being the part they got right, that thing is soo beefy, if it brakes, well I doupt it will, but if it does, I think no matter what rear I have in there, it would blow anyway, actually now that I think about it for a second, I have a 91 Escort that I've been beating the crap out of for about a year now and it still runs strong

I would say low 13's if you can get traction. High 12's on slicks. My 408 stroked Ram ran 14.38's on all motor without the SC. This was in 4wd on Mud Terrain tires.

That's kinda what I was thinkin (hoping) I figured if I get a four link made and tub it a little, I should be able to stuff and nice set of slicks in there, other wise I would just run down the quarter in a cloud of tire smoke, mind you, that wouldn't be all that bad, hehe

68 fury 4300 lbs with driver 505 hp 12.95@103 mph.
add 100 horsepower and 500 lbs...? probably a 12 second truck

nothin wrong with a nine inch, but i would imagine that if you went through the trouble to get a nine inch ford in a dodge truck, you could have found a dana.

you know you can get most driveshaft places to special order u-joints with the two different sizes...right? i had pat's driveline in edmonton order me a bunch of u-joints that have the large dodge pinion on one side and the small one on the other, because i have lots of different gearsets but some are small pinion and 2 out of 3 of my cars are the big pinion.

I should mention that getting the 9 inch in there was nothing, the drive shaft was the biggest part, other than that, all I had to do was change the spring guides, it's about a half inch wider than the original, the bolt patern is the same, it took about two hours in all, as far as getting a Dana, I looked for one, I also looked for a 8 3/4, I looked for nearly 2 months, and found nothing around where I live and I know alot of people, I actually found one 8 3/4, but it was blown and I didn't really want to rebuild it and plus the guy wanted 400$ for it, I only paid 250$ for the 9 inch and it was rebuilt two years ago with 4.11 gears.

So you guys think I'll be around 12s, eh? That's an Idea I like
