If he's got a 318 slant six, I'll give him $3,000 for the motor. A '75 Dart came with a 225 slant six standard, 318 V-8 was optional. It's easy to see the difference. 225 is inline, has 6 spark plugs in a row and the motor leans to the passenger side. The 318 has 4 spark plugs on each side.

I think the biggest you can bore a "Leaning Tower of Power" is about 240-ish, then you strike water. Dodge and Plymouth took alot of flak for their "small" 6. But the 225 out-powered a 292 Chebby. The OHC "Hemi" slant six from Austrailia is one hell of a motor, out-powering the 318. The slant 6 is a better and more modern design than the 4.0L in the Jeep. A slant with EFI would be a force to be reckoned with, esp. with a Hemi head.

Sorry dude, the Aussi Hemi six, is not a slant. It is a straight up inline six cyl. It is completely different from the slant six.

Thumbs up

The Ozzy 265 "Hemi" six is an interesting engine, it is an up-right, big bore - short stroke iron block with a pushrod activated "sideways" Hemi combustion chamber.
The valves angle front to back and the intake / exhaust manifolds are on the same side of the head. With the triple side draft Webber intake, these engines screamed.
It is a shame that we do not see many of these engines in the US.

in answer to djgrizzam original question , no the factory did not make a 318 slant 6 ! but on the other hand your friend might have inadvertantly. lets say his 318 v-8 is only running on 6 cylinders , and now lets not forget the possibility of one missing motor mount (giving it the effect of slant ) p.s. i probably wouldnt let him work on my car !
