Whatever you want to call it, I think they are going to sell a lot of these. I would like to put some cool wheels on, and add a killer paint job and (while I'm dreaming) a viper engine.
Here's a pic from the new car show in Detroit when I was there last Jan. ------------------ "Good Luck on your project." [This message has been edited by RAM MAN (edited December 29, 1999).] |

RamMan,you saw this vehicle up close,How big is it?? I've heard it's about as big as a Toyota Rav-4,and not much bigger than a Neon.Is this true??I personally like it and hopefully we will get some for our rental fleet where I work at.It is a cool (car, truck,SUV?)I also have heard that a version of this will be turbocharged.

Guys,
It's built on a NEON platform. 5 speed is the standard transmission. I've talked to some guys from Warren that say it will have the Neon R/T engine (2.4L??). If you lived back in the 1930s, you'd call it a 4 door sedan!!! <smile> Later. . . |

Its smaller than the regular Dodge Caravan - that's for sure. (I didn't realize it was on the Neon platform. . . . I thought it was a little bigger than that.
Anyway, I bet some hot customizer like Boyd Coddington will put some hot wheels on it and wood grain side and stick some surf boards out the back (or something.) If the 2.4 is all it has, I think the general public will want more power. (Undoubtably someone will want to tow their boat etc with it.) |

As someone who drove those old-style cars because that's all we kids could afford, I can only say I really dislike the design. If they had to go retro, I'd have preferred to see some tail fins!
Officially it's been designated a truck so as to raise the CAFE numbers in that class. |

THIS IS A COOL LOOKING SEDAN. ALL IT NEEDS IS SOME REAL POWER. AN OUTFIT IN MY NECK OF THE WOODS CALLED AUTOMOTIVE TRIK IS GOING TO TOTALLY TRICK OUT THIS CRUISER WITH ALL SORTS OF DO DADS. WHEELS, PAINT, BLOWERS, ETC.... THEY ALREADY HAVE THE PLANS IN MOTION!! THEY HAVE 3 ALREADY SOLD AND THEY DIDN'T EVEN START THE PROJECTS YET.

Again from Todays "Detroit Free Press" . . .
"The Cruiser will be technically categorized as a truck by the U.S. government. It rides higher than a car -- nearly as high as a minivan -- and affords the headroom of a sport-utility vehicle." And the price ??? The base model will start at $16,000, including the $550 destination charge. The most expensive model, which comes with traction control, custom wheels and every other factory-installed option, tops out at $20,955." I would have guessed more than that !
